With conical profile
A conical hand tap set consists of 2 taps that all have a full thread profile, but differ in lead length: the taper tap (n. 1) with form A has a gate length with 6 - 8 threads. The finishing tap (n. 2) with form C has a gate length of 2 - 3 threads and can thus cut the deepest usable thread and also enables blind holes to be cut almost to the bottom.
 
Unlike standard non-conical sets, where each tap progressively forms the thread (and is marked with 1–2 rings), conical taps are not ring-marked, because each tap is already capable of producing a complete thread on its own. However, the set of 2 is still essential: the cutting load is distributed over multiple steps, significantly reducing torque, improving alignment and surface finish, and minimizing the risk of breakage especially in difficult materials. The final thread is identical to that produced by a standard non-conical set, but obtained more safely and with better quality.
